Titanium is a lightweight metal that is works best for people with nickel sensitivity. We prefer to use implant certified titanium (Ti6Al4V ELI) that is ASTM F-136 compliant, ASTM F1295, ISO 5832-3 compliant, or commercially pure titanium that is ASTM F-67 compliant.

Gold, whether yellow, rose, or white, is suitable for initial piercings as long as it is 14k, free from nickel and cadmium, and specifically alloyed to be biocompatible. Gold above 18k is too soft for body jewelry, as it can be easily scratched or damaged. Jewelry that is gold-plated, gold-filled, or made with gold overlay/vermeil is not appropriate for new piercings. These types use a thin layer of gold over a base metal, which can wear away or chip over time.

316L Surgical Steel is a widely used and appropriate material for body piercings, particularly for initial and healed piercings. It is renowned for its strength, corrosion resistance, and hypoallergenic qualities, making it a top choice in the piercing industry. However, although it is generally safe, some people may still have allergic reactions to the nickel content in stainless steel.

The Piercing Experience
At Inklightened we like to offer our clients a personalized piercing experience. Your appointment starts with our piercer who will show you our jewelry selection and offer advice and suggestions. From there, our piercers determine the precise location and angle for your new piece based on your ear’s anatomy. This spot is marked with a skin marker. After antiseptic preparation of the skin, our piercers execute their craft as delicately and fast as possible. Once the needle is in position, we ask you to take a few deep, relaxing breaths, ensuring you are comfortable. The piercing process and installation is quick, and we are confident you will leave excited with your new piercing.
